The German-born of Turkish origin male soprano and counter-tenor, Onur Abaci, received his first musical education at the age of 7 at the Musikschule Neustadt an der Donau. After studying piano at the Mimar Sinan Universität/staatliches Konservatorium in Istanbul, he decided in 2006 to take the entrance exam at the international Rennomierschmiede Mozarteum in Salzburg for singing / opera, which he passed and was accepted in the class of Boris Bakow, Josef Wallnig and Eike Gramss and completed his Bachelor of Music/ Master of Music degree with distinction. As part of his studies at the Mozarteum, he participated in several opera productions, including Dido and Aeneas, L'incoronazione di Poppea, W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, La Dirindina, Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny. He also sang two world premieres of Fausto Tuscano in Salzburg. He was a finalist in several singing competitions such as the Hariclea Darclee International Voice Competition in Braila / Romania and the Virginia Zeani Voice Competition in Targu Mures / Romania.
In the 2010-2011 season Onur Abaci was heard at the Saarländischen Staatstheater in the opera Dido and Aeneas, conducted by Konrad Junghänel and staged by Nigel Lowery as 1st witch and spirit. He took part in the final concert “Schloss in Flammen” under the direction of Dan Ettinger in 2010 and 2012 as part of the Mannheimer Mozartsommers and was a member of the ensemble of the Nationaltheaters in Mannheim in the 2012-2013 season. In the summer of 2011 he appeared at the Festwochen der alten Musik in Innsbruck in the opera production La Calistomit. In summer 2013, he made his debut at the Salzburger Festspielen in a new production by Stefan Herheim in the opera Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg conducted by Daniele Gatti. In October 2013 he sang Prince Orlofsky with great success in the new production of Fledermaus as part of the Opera Mobile in the Saar-Lor-Lux region.
Onur Abaci also made guest appearances at the Mannheimer Nationaltheater, among others. as a soloist in the concert performance of "Carmina Burana" conducted by Dan Ettinger. He was heard as Falke and Hüter der Schwelle des Tempels at the Saarländischen Staatstheater in the new production of Die Frau ohne Schatten. Once again as part of the Mannheimer Mozartsommers 2014, he was heard under George Petrou in W.A. Mozart's Mitridate, re di Ponto at the Schwetzinger Schlosstheater. In the same year he was guest at the Hamburger Kammeroper as Sesto in George Frideric Handel's Giulio Cesare. At the Linzer Musiktheater he was heard as Vafrillo in Cavalli's La Rosinda. Most recently, he was engaged by the Schleswig-Holsteinische Landestheater/Flensburg as Fürst Go-Go, which he embodied with great success. He has been a member of the ensemble at Theater Regensburg since the 2019-2020 season. In the 2018-2019 season he could already be heard in Tosca im Hafen.
In addition to his operatic work, Onur Abaci is also in demand as an international concert singer. At the Slovenian National Theater Maribor he sang a solo concert under Andrea Marchiol. At the Zorlu Performing Arts Center in Istanbul, he took part in a gala concert for talented young talents, which is sponsored and directed by the world-famous pianist Fazil Say.
