The Spanish baritone and counter-tenor, Pedro Adarraga, began studying singing with the teacher Conchita Fraga teacher, during his studies of Biological Sciences at the Universidad Complutense, where he graduated in the specialty of Zoology in 1989. That same year he joined the Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid, then directed by Miguel Groba. In 1992 he moved to Holland, where he studied with teachers Max van Egmond, Paul Hameleers and Peter Kooy, graduating in early music singing at the University of the Arts in Amsterdam (Sweelinck Conservatorium) in 1994.
Pedro Adarraga has sung alternating voices of baritone and counter-tenor, in choirs as the Nederlandse Bachvereniging, Amsterdam Baroque Choir and Deutschen Bach-Vocalisten. He has also worked with leading professional choirs in Madrid (Coro de RTVE, Teatro Real, Comunidad de Madrid).
Pedro Adarraga 'sactivity covers a wide solo repertoire: from Heinrich Schütz' Passions, Reinhard Keiser and J.S. Bach cantatas and oratorios or various Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods to contemporary works of different genres and styles, under the direction of conductors as Jaap Hillen, Bob van Asperen, Lucy van Dael, Leo Rijkhaarts and Ton Koopman. He has played roles in the operas Dido and Aeneas and Dioclesian by Purcell, and also staged production of St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) by J.S. Bach. He also sang the title role in the premiere of Ko Klopstock- scenic cantata by Mischa Mengelberg Aan Dovemansoren. He also appears on two solo recordings of Cantigas by Alfonso X under the direction of Eduardo Paniagua and the premiere and recording of Jorge Fernández Guerra's work Los niños han gritado. His activity as a counter-tenor, and various works of the Baroque period (J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel, Antonio Vivaldi, Lully) includes the premiere of works such as The ballad of Hope Hill by the Argentinean composer Pablo Escande.
Pedro Adarraga has also given recitals of Lieder, Spanish song and contemporary repertoire in Spain, Holland, Germany, France and Japan, along with accompanists as Henk Verhoef, Pablo Escande or Sakurako Mitsuhashi. He recently started a new activity as speaker, intervening in several documentaries for TVE and Canal Natura. Currently he is a member of the Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid. |
