American Concert Choir (Choir) |
Founded: 1950 - New York, USA |
Margaret Hillis founded in 1950 the Tanglewood Alumni Chorus, which later became the American Concert Choir (and had also been known as the New York Concert Choir) - the first professional resident choir in the USA. Her concerts received superb critical notices. After attending a rehearsal of her American Concert Choir and Orchestra of New York in 1954, Fritz Reiner conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, employed Margaret Hillis and her ensemble with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra during the next three seasons. |
