The German soprano, Gundula Anders' love for the singing awaked already at kindergarten times. During the school time she spent most of her free time with singing, and afterwards studied at school music, organ, theology and German in her hometown Frankfurt. She then moved to Basel, in order to complete there her singing studies at the Schola Cantorum. From her teacher René Jacobs she received crucial impulses for performing Baroque vocal compositions, but advice of Emma Kirkby and later resuming instruction with Jessica Cash und Peter Elkus were just as important.
Beside the usual oratorio repertoire Gundula Anders sang during last years mainly music of the 17th and 18th centuries. Thereby she has co-operated thereby with musicians such as Philippe Herreweghe, Jordi Savall, Konrad Junghänel, Thomas Hengelbrock, Musica Fiata Köln and the Freiburger Barockorchester, and has appeared with them all over Europe, as well as in Israel and North Africa.
A solo CD with music of Sigismondo d'India together with Sigrun Richter and Hille Perl - documents Gundula Anders' preference for the music of the Early Italian Baroque. She has also undertaken trips into the world of the Middle Ages and performed together with the Ensemble Sequentia the music Hildegard von Bingen, and dedicates herself likewise to the contemporary music. The desire for a stable musical homeland led her to create in 2001 together with colleague the Deutschen Kammerchores.
Gundula Anders teaches historical singing at the Musikhochschule in Leipzig, and gives course for music of the 16th-18th Centuries. She lives in Munich and in her free time she is a passionate gardener. |
