Born: January 4, 1922 - Cottonwood, Arizona (?), USA

The American mezzo-soprano and music pedagogue, Exine Margaret Anderson-Bailey, received the B.S. degree from the University of Minnesota in 1944, and the M.A. degree and Professional Diploma from Columbia University in 1945 and 1951 respectively,

While a resident of New York City, Exine Bailey sang extensively on radio. Her performances included solo work with Arturo Toscanini, Frank Black, Peter Wilhousky, Howard Barlow, Lyn Murray, and the NBC Symphony Orchestra and CBS Symphony Orchestra. She was also soloist for several large churches and temples and sang throughout the East Coast in oratorio and concert.

Exine Bailey was a winner of the New York Singing Teachers' Young Artist Award, which resulted in a recital at New York's City Center. A Metropolitan Opera Scholarship gave her the opportunity to train and perform with the Opera. As a student of Julia Drobner, one of the leading teachers of the New York Metropolitan Opera Association, Bailey has continued to return to that area for further study and occasional guest solo performances.

Exine Bailey was Professor of voice and voice pedagogy, teaching at the University of Oregon from 1951 to 1986. During this period, she sang initial performances of contemporary works and performed throughout the Northwest and the West Coast as a guest soloist. She is now professor emerita of voice and voice pedagogy, University of Oregon.

Exine Bailey is active in professional organizations, holding national offices in the Music Teachers National Association and the National Association of Teachers of Singing. She is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, Kappa Delta Pi, and Sigma Alpha Iota. She travels extensively throughout the country as an adjudicator and conductor of masterclasses in voice.

Exine Andersom married Arthur Albert Bailey on May 5, 1956. Short biographies of her appear in Who's Who in the West, Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in American Music, Who's Who in America, International Who's Who in Music, The World Who's Who of Women, Men and Women of Distinction, and The International Book of Honor.
