The Ukrainian-Canadian mezzo-soprano, Alexandra Beley, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Wilfrid Laurier University (2005-2009); her Opera Diploma in Vocal Studies in Opera also from Wilfrid Laurier University (2009-2010); and her Masters of Music degree in Opera Performance from the University of Toronto (September 2010-June 2012). After her studies, she completed a year in Calgary Opera’s Emerging Artist Program (2013-August 2014), where she made her debut singing the title role in Benjamin Britten's The Rape of Lucretia; and completed two years at L’Atelier Lyrique with Opéra de Montréal (since August 2014-2015), where she made her debut with the company singing Berta in Il barbiere di Siviglia.
Since then, Alexandra Beley has sung with various opera companies, including: Abridged Opera, Opera by Request, Bicycle Opera Project, to name a few. Most importantly, she is no stranger to Opera Revue. She is quickly establishing herself as an up and coming young mezzo-soprano. She has been praised for her lyrical voice- dark and rich in timbre. In 2015, she sang Second Maid in Strauss’s Elektra under the baton of esteemed conductor and current Music Director of The Metropolitan Opera, Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Other roles include: Dorothée in Cendrillion, Dorabella in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte, Hänsel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel, Dinah in Leonard Bernstein's Trouble in Tahiti, Flosshilde in R. Wagner's Das Rheingold and Das Rheingold, Rossweisse in R. Wagner's Die Walküre, and Stéphano Charles Gounod's Roméo et Juliette (2017-2018 season).
Alexandra Beley also incredibly passionate about performing new operatic works. Since 2013, she has regularly worked with the Bicycle Opera Project. Some of her most notable performances being on the 2017 tour of Sweat and the world premier of Llandovery Castle in 2018. Her most recent performances include the film version of Sweat, which premiered at the Kingston Film Festival in 2023 and Suzuki in Madama Butterfly.
Alexandra Beley also teaches voice at the Musical Arts Academy in Ontario. |
