The German soprano, Barbara Berg (formerly Barbara Kind), studied singing at the Universität der Künste Berlin with Professor Julie Kaufmann and graduated with degrees in opera (2005) as well as concert and oratorio (2006 with honors). Master-classes with René Jacobs, Krisztina Láki, Sylvia Geszty, Axel Bauni and Barbara Bonney complemented her education.
After graduation Barbara Berg worked for two years as a freelance singer. She developed a great concert repertoire and worked in various opera productions, such as in Berlin at the Deutsche Oper in Das Traumfresserchen by Wilfried Hiller, she sang Ilia in W.A. Mozart's Idomeneo at the Richard-Strauss-Festival in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Zerlina in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Poznan Opera House and Ottilie in Im weißen Rössl at the Garmisch-Partenkirchener Kultursommer. She was a regular guest at the Festtagen Alter Musik in Bamberg.
Since April 2008, Barbara Berg has been a permanent member of the Rundfunkchor Berlin, at whose concerts she frequently appears as a soloist, among others in Angst by Christian Jost at the Komische Oper Berlin, in W.A. Mozart's Idomeneo at the Festival d'Aix en Provence and in J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) in Scenic Ritualization by Peter Sellars.
In addition to her permanent position, Barbara Berg is a versatile concert soloist. She sang several times at the Berliner Dom, the Konzerthaus and the Philharmonie Berlin, but also throughout Germany and abroad, for example as Frasquita in Georges Bizet's Carmen in a concert performance of the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle in Caracas, Venezuela , in the summer of 2010. She was a soloist with the Berliner Philharmoniker on several occasions, with works by Arnold Schoenberg and Luciano Berio.
Her repertoire includes various oratorios, masses and cantatas as well as modern compositions, chamber music programs and recitals. So she worked u.a. with Oliver Pohl (piano) Wolff's Italienisches Liederbuch and tango programmes with Coco Nelegatti (guitar and composition). |
