The Austrian tenor, Stefan Berghammer, studied initially piano at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg. He obtained his Master of Music degree in Singing Teaching from the University Mozarteum in Salzburg. He then gained a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he was taught by Ian Partridge. He belongs to a group of singing teachers who impart the method applied by Maestro David Jones (the Swedish/Italian School of Singing), and his knowledge of this technique is broadened by regular study with Jones. He has won various singing prizes, including the Elena Gerhardt Lieder Prize, the Croft Original Prize for Early Music, and a prize from the St. John’s Festival Choir Oratorio Singing Competition in London.
Stefan Berghammer has sung many solo roles in oratorio, particularly in J.S. Bach's Passions, but also in Monteverdi’s Maria Vespers, for instance. He also has considerable opera experience. His roles include Tamino in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and Dr. Blind in Strauss' Die Fledermaus, but he has also appeared in the Sound of Music Show and My Fair Lady in Salzburg.
Stefan Berghammer is a very versatile singer, at home in both solo and ensemble singing at the highest level. He is a permanent member of the renowned Nederlands Kamerkoor (Current Director: Peter Dijkstra) since 1998, and of the internationally famous Huelgas Ensemble (Director: Paul van Nevel), specialists in Renaissance music. With the Huelgas Ensemble he won numerous prizes in recent years, such as the Edison Klassik Price 2007, the Echo Klassiek Preis 2010, the Clef de Mois Resmusica 2014, Diapason D’or 2014, Choc de Classica 2014, Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik 2014 and the Diapason d'Or l'Année 2014. He also intensively works together with the Egidius Quartet, Cappella Amsterdam (Director: Daniel Reuss), NDR Chor Hamburg, SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart, Klangforum Heidelberg and Ensemble Currende.
Stefan Berghammer's busy concert schedule has brought him to the most important music festivals in Europe, the USA, Thailand, Singapore and Israel. His concert repertoire spans all genres of music, from Renaissance and Baroque to Contemporary.
