Berliner Barock-Compagney (Baroque Chamber Instrumental Ensemble)

Founded: 1986 - Berlin, Germany

The Berliner Barock-Compagney is a chamber music ensemble, based on the performance of early music with authentic instruments.

The Berliner Barock-Compagney was founded in 1986 by former students of the Berlin's Hanns-Eisler-Hochschule. Today, the core of the ensemble consists of the three musicians: Georg Kallweit (violin), Jan freedom (cello, viola da gamba) and Christine Schornsheim home (historical keyboard instruments).

In the beginning, the ensemble focused on the trio sonata repertoire of the 18th Century, first played on instruments of modern design. But soon the musicians developed interest in the music of other eras, but especially to their correct style. Since 1990 the musicians of the Berliner Barock-Compagney play in concerts with historical instruments. Their programs include the high level still insufficiently performed art of the early Baroque as well as works of the early 19th Century.

To present a wider range of possibilities for the listeners' insights into the music of different periods, the Berliner Barock-Compagney began to expand the ensemble from the core of violin, cello and harpsichord according to the relevant cases. For its artistic needs the ensemble now engages and hosts other instrumentalists - for example, Reinhold Friedrich (trumpet), Alfredo Bernardini (oboe) and Peter Huntgeburth (flute) - as well as giving cantata programs with vocal soloists such as Ruth Ziesak, Ann Monoyios, Barbara Schlick, Johannette Zomer, Michael Schopper and Klaus Mertens.

Berliner Barock-Compagney has given guest performances at home and abroad, has received invitations to the major music festivals, and has participated in numerous radio, television and CD productions.
