Laura Berman (Soprano)

Born: May 19, 1993 - Plainsboro, New Jersey, USA

The American soprano and music teacher, Laura Berman (formerly: Kosar), obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from University of Delaware (UD) in 2014; and her Master of Music degree in Voice Performance and Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton (since June 2014). During her studies at UD she was active in UD Opera Theater, performing in La Bohème (Musetta) and Suor Angelica (Suor Genovieffa). She was also a member of the University of Delaware Chorale, touring in Provence, France, and Dallas, Texas; and the Collegium Musicum, performing in Carissimi’s oratorio Historie di Jephte (Filia). She was also active in the Wilmington music scene. She frequently soloeds with the Mastersingers of Wilmington, with whom she sang the soprano solo of Francis Poulenc’s Gloria. She also participated in Opera Delaware, where she performed in a children's outreach production of The Three Little Pigs (Despina-Pig), with music by W.A. Mozart. She was named a recipient of the Milton Cross Award for the 2018 Minuetto Music Festival.

Laura Berman enjoys a diverse career as a performer and music teacher. Performance highlights as a soloist include the beloved soprano solos in Johannes BrahmsEin Deutsches Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Haydn's The Seven Last Words of Christ, the W.A. Mozart's Requiem, Leonard Bernstein's Mass, and Schubert’s Mass in G. Operatic highlights include: Hansel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel und Gretel, Susanna in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Pamina in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Adele in Die Fledermaus, and Musetta in La Bohme, among others.

As a chorister Laura Berman has enjoyed singing with the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir, Princeton Singers (Director: Steven Sametz), Opera Delaware, and the Princeton Festival Opera. She maintains a private voice and piano studio, holds a position at St. James the Less as a soprano and director of the youth choir, and teaches early childhood music classes. She married Benjamin Berman on August 21, 2022, and currently lives in Franklin Park, New Jersey.
