The German tenor, Matthias Bleidorn, studied singing from 1980 to 1987 with Professor Gerhard Eisenmann at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin. His graduation was followed by a three-year engagement at the Studio of the Deutsche Staatsoper in Berlin. During this time he studied privately with Professor Heinz Reeh. He also attended courses by Aldo Baldin, Kurt Equiluz and Hermann Christian Polster. He is the winner of the International Dvorák Competition in 1987 in Karlovy Vary, the Bach Competition in 1988 in Leipzig and the International Singing Competition in 1989 in s'-Hertogenbosch (The Netherlands).
From 1991 to 1997 Matthias Bleidorn was engaged as a lyric tenor at the Staatstheater Cottbus. This included especially the Mozart roles (Don Ottavio, Ferrando, Tamino, Belmonte, Bastien and Basilio), but also Stewa in Jenufa (Janácek), Andres in Wozzeck (Alban Berg), Edwin in Die Csárdásfürstin (Kálmán), and many others. Particular successes were his interpretation of Orpheus - because of high demands on the tenor - in the rarely played Paris version of Gluck's Orfeo ed Eurydice, and his presentation of Quasimodo in the world premiere of the opera Quasimodos Hochzeit by Rainer Böhm. Almost all of these productions were in the hands of Martin Schüler.
Guest engagements have led Matthias Bleidorn so far to the Oper Leipzig, the Staatstheater Schwerin, the Metropoltheater Berlin, the Nationaltheater Weimar, the Opernhaus Erfurt and again to the Staatstheater Cottbus. Since the start of the 2003-2004 season, he is once again a permanent member of the ensemble. Concert tours, particularly as the Evangelist in J.S. Bach's great choral works, have led him to the music centres of Germany, to many European countries and several times to Japan and China.
Matthias Bleidorn has sung under conductors such as Roland Bader, Georg Christoph Biller, Eric Ericson, Heinz Fricke, Dietrich Knothe, Roderich Kreile, Frank Morgenstern, Reinhard Petersen, Max Pommer, Hans-Christoph Rademann, Helmuth Rilling, Hans-Joachim Rotzsch, Edo de Waart and many other.
Matthias Bleidorn appears as a tenor soloist in CD recordings with the Knabenchor Hannover under Heinz Hennig (George Frideric Handel's Israel in Egypt), the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra under Edo de Waart (Felix Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 2 Lobgesang) and with the Dresdner Philharmonie under Hans-Christoph Rademann (Bruch: Das Lied von der Glocke). |
