Henryk Böhm (Baritone)

Born: Dresden, Saxony, Germany

The German baritone, Henryk Böhm, began his musical career at the age of 9 years in the Dresdner Kreuzchor. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik "Carl Maria von Weber" Dresden with Professor Christiane Junghanns, and further in master-classes with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Peter Schreier, Werner Hollweg and especially with Brigitte Fassbaender, during her two-year tenure as director of the Brunswick State Theater. He is a winner of the 12th International Robert-Schumann-Competition in Zwickau, of the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang in Berlin in 1996 and a scholarship holder of the Deutscher Musikrat.

Since 1995 Henryk Böhm is a member of the ensemble of the Brunswick State Theater. His operatic appearances have included such leading roles as Papageno in W.A. Mozart's Zauberflöte, Guglielmo in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte, Figaro and the Count Almaviva in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni in Don Giovanni, Danilo in Léhar's Merry Widow, Harlekin in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos, Figaro in Rossini's Barbiere di Siviglia, Valentin in Charles Gounod's Faust, Silvio in Leoncavallo's Pagliacci, Frank and Fritz in Korngold´s Die Tote Stadt, Dr. Falke in Strauß' Fledermaus, Sharpless in Madame Butterfly, Donner in Wagner's Rheingold and a wide range of other roles. He has performed also at the Salzburg Festival, and at the Opera houses of Leipzig, Hannover, Darmstadt, Essen and Magdeburg.

His engagements in the realm of oratorio include the Dresdner Musikfestspiele, the Midem classique Cannes, the Settimane Bach Milano, the Herbstliche Musiktage Bad Urach and the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Music Festival, the Händelfestspiele Halle and Göttingen, the Rheingau-Musikfestival.

Henryk Böhm joined forces with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, Dresdner Philharmonie, Bach Collegium Leipzig, MDR Kammerphilharmonie, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Thomanerchor Leipzig, Dresdner Kreuzchor, RIAS-Kammerchor, Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Accentus Paris and National Chorus of Korea. He worked with such noted conductors as Peter Schreier, Jörg-Peter Weigle, Friedrich Haider, Daniele Callegari, Phillipe Augin, Udo Zimmermann, Helmuth Rilling and Hans-Christoph Rademann. During recent years concert tours have taken him to USA, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Israel, Italy, Spain and South Korea.

Lieder recitals are an important part of his musical life. He often works together with the pianists Phillip Moll and Hendrik Bräunlich. He has sung in recital at the Dortmunder Schubert-Zyklus, at the reconstruction concerts of the Dresdner Frauenkirche, at the Galleriekonzert of the Deutschland Radio Berlin and at the Festeburg concerts in Frankfurt am Main, among other venues. Henryk Böhm is co-founder of the noted series of recitals 'Das Lied in Dresden'.

Henryk Böhm's artistic activities have been represented in broadcasts at the Deutschland Radio Berlin, MDR Kultur, NDR, RAI and Radio France. He took part in the first recording of Heitor Villa-Lobos' 10th symphony, conducted by Carl St. Clair for the CPO label, and in the complete recording of the opera Ekkehard by Johann Joseph Abert, for Capriccio.
