Julia Böhme (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: March 20, 1983 - Eilenburg, Saxony, Germany

The German mezzo-soprano, Julia Böhme, studied acting, singing and dancing at the Berliner Schule für Bühnenkunst; vocal studies at the Hochschule für Musik »Carl Maria von Weber« in Dresden.

Julia Böhme has already seen many opera houses and concert halls from the inside and loves to fill it with the sound of her deep voice. She finds it particularly appealing to explore different facets of sound and to give expression to the depths of human soul. Truthfulness and direct address to her listeners are a great need for her. ocal expressiveness and beauty, historically informed stylistics and a special timbre characterize her as well as acting intensity and versatility. She has not only developed into a sought-after interpreter of the music of the 17th and 18th centuries, but has also earned a firm place in modern and interdisciplinary projects.

Julia Böhme made her debut in the 2012-2013 season at the Oper Halle and the Semperoper Dresden. Since 2012 she has participated at the Händelfestspielen Halle. Since 2012 she has been a member of Auditiv Vokal Dresden, one of the most distinguished ensembles for contemporary music.

In 2015 Julia Böhme sang the role of Riccardo Primo in the same-named opera by George Frideric Handel at the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspielen. She took part in various opera productions with the Lautten Compagney Berlin. In 2016, she participated at Salzburger Festspiele and toured with the Collegium 1704 (Director: Václav Luks) and other concerts. In 2016, she also sang aghet with the Dresdner Sinfoniker. She participated in »Glorious Revolution« Purcell program with Anna Prohaska at the Herrenchiemsee Festspielen und and the Rheingau Musik. She sang in various concerts with the Gaechinger Cantorei Stuttgart under baton of Hans-Christoph Rademann.

Julia Böhme has dedicated herself to the expression of Baroque gestures under Sigrid T’Hooft and Milo Momm and has been active as a singer and actor in the productions of the Serkowitzer Volksoper since 2019. The courage to open up to new paths has carried her through the last few years: since 2019, she has been working on versatile innovative projects with dancer Katja Erfurth; since 2021 she has been giving the band YOUKALÍ a new voice and is interpreting ingenious compositions of texts by Mascha Kaléko; In 2023, a chanson evening was created around the wonderful Juliette Gréco.

In the 2024-2025 season, Julia Böhme can be experienced with Mikis Theodorakis‘ Canto General under the baton of Hans-Christoph Rademann at the Liederhalle Stuttgart. Other highlights include the ION Music Festival, the Kurt Weill Festival in Dessau, a renewed collaboration with the Serkowitz Volksoper and other diverse concerts and projects.

Her first solo CD »seconda donna« (Accent label) in February 2019, with alto arias by G.F. Handel and Antonio Vivaldi - together interpreted with La Folia Barockorchester. She currently lives in Dresden, Germany.
