Dallas Bono (Tenor)

Born: June 10, 1970 - Webster Groves, Missouri, USA

The American tenor and voice teacher, Dallas Bono, obtained his degrees in Music from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (1989-1992); in Music Performance from the Florida State University (1992-1994); and in Opera Performance from Indiana University Bloomington (1995-1996).

Dallas Bono has enjoyed three decades as an operatic tenor, conductor, and master voice teacher. He has sung in many distinguished opera houses in the USA, including New York Grand Opera in Carnegie Hall, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Baltimore Opera, Opera Colorado, Sarasota Opera, Arizona Opera, The Austin Lyric Opera, Opera in The Heights, and many more. Specializing in the roles of Verdi and Puccini, he has sung Rodolfo in La Bohème, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Ruggero in La Rondine, Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto, Manrico in Il Trovatore, Otello and Cassio in Otello, Riccardo in Un Ballo in Maschera, the title role in Don Carlos, as well as leading roles in Pagliacci, Les Contes du Hoffmann, Tannhäuser, Der Königskinder, Die Fledermaus, The Merry Widow, and Georges Bizet’s Carmen. He has also sung several musical theater roles including Matt in The Fantastiks, Joe Cable in South Pacific, Tony in Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story, and most recently Edna Turnblad in Hairspray. He has sung several oratorios with renowned orchestras including George Frideric Handel’s Messiah, W.A. Mozart's Requiem Mass, and L.v. Beethoven Symphony No. 9.

Dallas Bono maintains his Dallas Bono Voice Studio since 2000. He has utilized his experience on the stage and his studies with master teachers Virginia Zeani, Enrico di Giuseppe, Gary DiPasquasio, Carol Kimball, Sandra Lutters, and Janice Harsanyi to be one of the most sought after vocal teachers in Georgia. His students have gone on to prestigious vocal programs, colleges, and professional repertory companies. His technical approach is from a classical standpoint emphasizing posture, breath control, relaxation, and vocal power. His students sing classical music, musical theater, pop, rock, and country depending upon their interests.

Dallas Bono is the president and Artistic Director of RespirOpera: The North Georgia Opera Incentive Company. This opera company is committed to providing performance opportunities to Georgia residents in the form of complete operatic productions, gala performances, and recitals.

Dallas Bono served as Director of Music at St. Gregory the Great Episcopal Church in Athens, Georgia, conducting the choir and planning worship (October 2008-October 2014). Durrently he is Music Director at Oconee Presbyterian Church, conducting a wonderful choir and bell ensemble, planning all elements of music in worship (since October 2014).

Dallas Bono is also a black belt in the art of Kyuki-do, and an assistant instructor at AKF Athens Martial Arts. He finds that his martial arts training, especially relating to balance, posture, and physical fitness benefit the art of singing. In addition, he is horror and thriller novelist with the esteemed Knight Literary Agency (July 2013). He married Kendall Marie Kookogey on May 25, 2002, and currently lives in Athens, Georgia.
