The English tenor, Ben Breakwell, studied at Christ's Hospital in Horsham, Norfolk. He graduated from Kings College, Cambridge in 2004.
Ben Breakwell is now based in London where he sings in a number of professional ensembles including the Cambridge Singers (Director: John Rutter) and English Voices. He has worked with a range of conductors including René Jacobs, Ivor Bolton, Nicholas Kraemer, and John Rutter. As a soloist he has made appearances the Munich Opera Festival and Karlsruhe Handel Festival. Recent performances include staged performances of J.S. Bach’s St John Passion (BWV 245) with Le Concert d'Astrée in Paris, conducted by Emmanuelle Haïm. Recent solo engagements include the part of Attendant in George Frideric Handel’s Solomon conducted by René Jacobs with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, J.S. Bach’s cantata Weinen, klagen, sorgen, zagen (BWV 12) at the London Bach Festival with the Steinitz Bach Playerss and a specially commissioned arrangement of Suo Gân with the Reading Phoenix Choir. He is a founding member and manager of the professional close harmony group, Cappella Artois.
Ben Breakwell also appears as a soloist on a number of recordings including Sea Change, the award-winning Cambridge Singers recording of Richard Rodney Bennett’s choral music conducted by John Rutter. |
