The German counter-tenor and choral conductor, Edzard Burchards, studied after high school education at the Pädagogischen Hochschule Karlsruhe. In 1991 he studied conducting with Professor Martin Schmidt and Michael Procter at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe and attended master-classes in conducting and historical performance practice with Tõnu Kaljuste, Martin Gester, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Eric Ericson.
During his studies Edzard Burchards took on an active concert career as a conductor and singer. He has participated in numerous CD and radio recordings. As an ensemble singer he is regularly invited to perform with the Collegium Vocale Gent under Philippe Herreweghe, Balthasar-Neumann-Chor under Thomas Hengelbrock, Vocalconsort Berlin, Al Ayre Español and other international ensembles.
In 1998, Edzard Burchards with his teacher and friend, the English choral conductor and musicologist Michael Procter (d 1992), founded the Ensemble Hofkapelle with the aim of prrforming Renaissance music in an authentic way. With this ensemble he could deal as a singer intensively with the music from 1450 to 1650 and gained a thorough knowledge of their theoretical foundations.
Edzard Burchards his known in seminars for experienced choral singers. In these seminars, music of the Renaissance and early Baroque is developed and performed in church services and concerts. |
