Thr Australian tenor, Michael Burden, studied Voice at Sydney Conservatorium of Music, The University of Sydney.
Currently Sydney-based, Michael Burden enjoys a varied career of operatic, concert, and choral repertoire. His performed roles include Nireno in George Frideric Handel's Giulio Cesare for Pinchgut Opera (2024); Rosencrantz (cover) in Brett Dean's Hamlet for Opera Australia (Winter Season 2024); Ottone in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea (Trentino Music Festival, 2022); Oberon in Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Sydney Conservatorium X NIDA, 2021); Une Scythe in Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride, Sorceress / Second Witch / The Spirit in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (St Paul’s College, 2022); Secrecy/Summer in Purcell’s Fairy Queen (St Paul’s College Choir, 2023) and Hyacinthus in W.A. Mozart's Apollo et Hyacinthus. Chorus credits include Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice and Iphigénie en Tauride, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and Fairy Queen, and W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte.
A seasoned concert performer, Michael Burden's solo concert credits include: Antonio Vivaldi's Nisi Dominus with Adelaide Baroque; Gloria with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra (2023), and the A. Vivaldi Vespers (Stabat Mater, Magnificat & Beatus Vir) with Brisbane Chamber Choir; G.F. Handel's Dixit Dominus with Royal Melbourne Philharmonic (2023), Messiah, Nisi Dominus, Didymus in Theodora and Joad in Athalia; Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater and Magnificat; Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit; J.S. Bach's St Matthew’s Passion with Fiori Musicali Armidale; and numerous J.S. Bach cantatas.
He has worked throughout Australia with ensembles including Pinchgut Opera, Opera Australia, Bach Akademie Australia Adelaide Baroque, and the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra; and with conductors including Tim Anderson, Tahu Matheson, Erin Helyard, Madeleine Easton, and Paul Dyer AO. |
