The American soprano/mezzo-soprano, Mary Burgess, has recorded for Columbia’s Music from Marlboro series. She has toured with the winter group in easterm cities. Opera roles she performed (until 1964) include Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier, Marina in Boris Goudonov (a role she sang in both Russian and English), Chrubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Dorabella in Così fan tutte, and Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia. Other performances (until 1970) include Haydn’s opera La Tantarina at Montreal’s Expo 67, and Linclon Center’s Mozart Festival, J.S. Bach’s Magnificat (BWV 243) with the Choral Union conducted by Thor Johnson at Ann Arbor May Festival (Michigan) in 1970, and J.S. Bach’s Cantata BWV 30 with Brattleboro Bach Festival Chorus & Orchestra conducted by Blanche Moyse at the first annual Brattleboro Bach Festival (Vermont) in 1970. New York Herald Tribune wrote: Miss Burgess “has a marvelous way with Mozart".
