Coro de Câmara da Universidade de Lisboa (= CCUL) was founded in 1997 by José Robert, the artistic director at the Universidade de Lisboa. The choir’s repertoire is eclectic, spanning a wide range of choral music, with an emphasis on works for chamber choir - both a cappella and accompanied by ensembles or orchestras.
Highlights of its extensive track record include performances of works by contemporary Portuguese composers such as Fernando Lopes-Graça, Eurico Carrapatoso, and Sérgio Azevedo - including several premieres and commissioned pieces - as well as works by earlier Portuguese composers like Francisco António de Almeida and João Lourenço Rebelo.
The choir has participated in various international choral festivals (e.g., the City of Derry International Choir Festival in Northern Ireland, the World Choir Festival in Puebla, Mexico, and the Cantemus Festival in Hungary) and national festivals (such as the Festival de Música de São Roque and Cistermúsica).
The choir regularly organizes concerts as part of the Universidade de Lisboa's music season, recently performing works such as Benjamin Britten's Hymn to Saint Cecilia, Igor Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms, Johannes Brahms' Liebeslieder (Op. 52), John Rutter's Mass of the Children, Domingos Bomtempo's Requiem, Gioachino Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, and Marc-Antoine Charpentier's Te Deum - the latter performed with a Baroque orchestra to mark the choir’s 25th anniversary.
Since 2010, the choir has been conducted by Luís Almeida. |
