Chicago Symphony Chorus (= CSO), American first professional symphony chorus, has won 9 Grammy awards. The 200-member group performs with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra both at Orchestra Hall and the Ravinia Festival. Founded in 1957, by Margaret Hillis and then - Chicago Symphony Orchestra conductor Fritz Reiner.
The CSC's repertoire spans the great choral/orchestral works (Verdi's Requiem, L.v. Beethoven's Missa Solemnis, J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232), and 2 recordings of Johannes Brahms’ German Requiem. With the Lyric Opera of Chicago Chorus, they presented the American premiere of Henryk Gorecki's Miserere. They recently recorded Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nuremberg with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra directed by music director laureate Sir Georg Solti.
Duain Wolfe has been director of the CSO chorus since 1994. Over half of the singers are professional. |
