The French bass-baritone, Anicet Castel, studied at St François de Sales Gien (Class of 2002) and at Lycée Pothier in Orleans (2002-2004). He had undergraduate studies in Classics at La Sorbonne in Paris (Class of 2006). At the same time, he studied singing at the École Nationale de Musique d’Orléans. In 2007, he jenrolled at Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles, and obtained in 2010 his Diploma, specialized musical education.
Anicet Castel appeared regularly between 2007 and 2010 as soloist in the Chapelle Royale de Versailles (Jeudis Musicaux) and as a singer in France and Europe with ensembles such as Le Poème Harmonique (Director: Vincent Dumestre), Le Concert Spirituel (Director: Hervé Niquet), Les Folies Françoises (Director: Patrick Cohën-Akenine).. In January 2010, we could be seen on stage at the Opéra d'Avignon in Amadis by Lully, conducted by Olivier Schneebeli and staged by Olivier Benezech. During the 2011-2012 season, he played the role of the Mufti in Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme by Molière and Lully.
Currently, Anicet Castel performs with renowned ensembles such as Chœur de Chambre Accentus (Director: Laurence Equilbey, Akadêmia Ensemble (Director: Françoise Lasserre), Choeur de Chambre de Namur (Director: Jean Tubéry), Les Cris de Paris, Le Chœur de l’Opéra de Rouen, Sospiranti ou Le Labyrinthe des Passions under the direction of leaders as Rinaldo Alessandrini, Laurence Equilbey, Françoise Lasserre, Leonardo García-Alarcón and Peter Phillips.
Attracted by the Baroque style and the staging, Anicet Castel decided to recreate as gestural codes of the time the entertainment Les Plaisirs de Versailles by Marc-Antoine Charpentier. In the same spirit he directs the programme Les Doux Tourments for the ensemble I Sospiranti. He currently lives in Paris, France. |
