The American baritone, Darren Chase, obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies Comparative Literature from University of California at Berkeley (1993-1996); his Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Boston University (1997-1999); and his Master of Science degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from City University of New York (2002-2004).
Darren Chsae's wide repertoire includes performances with the Santa Fe Opera, American Bach Soloists (Director: Jeffrey Thomas), Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Aspen and Tanglewood Music Festivals, International Contemporary Ensemble and Exilkabarett.
Darren Chase is the winner of the 2013 American Prize in Art Song. He has recorded two albums, "Robert Schumann: Liederkreis" and "The Young Debussy" and recently published a beginner's singing manual titled Singing from the Inside. His newest project is a concert tour of Schubert's Winterreise with performances in the original German as well as his own English translation: "The Winter Journey".
In addition to his musical endeavors, Darren Chase has worked as ESL Teacher at NYC Teaching Fellows (2002-2005); Vocal Coach at Voice Circle in New York (2000-2008); ESL Instructor at Guardia Community College in New York (August 2005-2008); Mentor Teacher at Company NameTeachers College, Columbia University in New York (September 2006-May 2008). Since 2005, he is ESL Coordinator at NYC Department of Education in New York, including teaching English at the New Design High School, a public school in his Lower East Side neighborhood and directing the New Design Choir. He currently lives in New York City. |
