The Malaysian baritone, Vun Chieh Chin (Chinese: 陳文傑), started singing with Basel Christian Church Tenom Children's Choir since his childhood. As a recipient of scholarship given by The United Chinese School Committees' Association of Malaysia, he received his Diploma in Music from Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA) in 2009 as a merit award student. He studied classical guitar with Mr. Vincent Ong and Mr. Stanley Chin, jazz guitar with Mr. Alex Koh and vocal studies with Mr. Ian Tan and Mr. Solomon Chong. He has been studying vocal studies under the tutelage of Malaysia renowned soprano, Ms.Cecilia Yap.
Vun Chieh Chin was a member of Yin Qi Choir in year 2009 to 2011, directed by Elaine Pao. He appeared as a vocal soloist in Yin Qi’s Praising Concert “Credo of All Ages” in year 2010 and J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) in year 2011. In 2015, he was a member of the festival choir, singing J.S. Bach’s Magnificat (BWV 243) and Cantata BWV 137, under the baton of Maestro Masaaki Suzuki in the Aula Simfonia Jakarta. From 2015-2016, he was invited by KLCO to perform the role of Basilio in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Benoît and Alcindoro in Puccini’s La bohème in its fundraising concerts. He married Rebecca Lim Shir Yan in on February 28, 2015, and currently lives in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Since October 2009, he works as Instructor at The Guitar Store in Kuala Lumpur. |
