The Hong Kong Chinese soprano, Candice Chung (Chinese: 鍾嘉欣), obtained her Bachelor of Music degree from Manhattan School of Music (2011), where she studied with the Metropolitan Opera's Mark Oswald and renowned American soprano Ashley Putnam; and her Master of Music degree from Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester (2015), where she studied with renowned American mezzo-soprano Katherine Ciesinski, and paticipated in the Eastman School of Music: Bach Cantata Series (BWV 4, February 2014; BWV 182, March 2014).. She was awarded 3rd place at the 34th Annual Jessie Kneisel Lieder Competition and won an Encouragement Award at the Metropolitan Opera National Council District Auditions in 2015.
Candice Chung's recent stage appearances include Pamina in W.A. Mozart's The Magic Flute (April 2019), the title role in Maria Stuarda (Opera Hong Kong, April 2018), Micaela in Georges Bizet's Carmen (November 2019), Countess in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (November 2020) in Italy, and Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus in the USA. With Eastman Opera Theatre she sang the role of Laetitia in The Old Maid and the Thief, and covered the role of Emily in Ned Rorem’s Our Town. She has also appeared on stage as Manon in Manon, Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier and Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, La Belle Helene, and Norina in Don Pasquale (Opera Hong Kong, August 2022). Most recently, she sang the original role of the Swallow in the musical The Happy Prince & the Other Wise Man in December 2018 and its re-run in March 2019 and 2022. |
