The American mezzo-soprano and yoga teacher and voice instructor, Krista Costin, studied West African Music and Dance at the University of Ghana in Accra, Ghana (2006), and German and Classical Voice at IES Vienna in Vienna, Austria (2007). She obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minnesota (2004-2008); and her Master of Music degree in Voice Performance from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana (2009-2011).
Krista Costin has performed with Minnesota Opera, Indianapolis Opera, The Atlanta Opera, and Bachakademie Stuttgart. Locally, she has performed with The Minnesota Beethoven Festival, Minnesota Chorale, SPCO Chorus, The Singers (September 2013-June 2014), and Minnesota Bach Ensemble. she is also a member of the critically-acclaimed Berwick Chorus of the Oregon Bach Festival, under the direction of Matthew Halls. She is currently Alto section leader at House of Hope Presbyterian Church in St. Paul (since September 2014). Upcoming ensemble performances include Johannes Brahms' Requiem under the baton of Helmuth Rilling, and the world premiere of James Macmillian’s Requiem at the 2016 Oregon Bach Festival.
Krista Costin devotes her career to the fusion of music and yoga. She is Registered Yoga Teacher (200 hours) from Yoga Alliance (since December 2011), and Yin Yoga Teacher from Yoga Center of Minneapolis (since September 2013). Passionate about creating fully embodied performances, she has taught yoga to musical ensembles abroad and in the Twin Cities, and prioritizes the experience of sound in classes taught locally at Yoga Sol (since May 2013) and The Emily Program (June 2015-August 2016). She also works as a self-employed voice instructor since May 2009. She currently lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota. |
