The Israeli mezzo-soprano, Avital Dery [Deri], studied with Marina Levitt at the Academy of Music and Dance in Jerusalem. She is a winner of first prize in singing with orchestra competition at the Academy in Jerusalem in 2009. She also won scholarships from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, and and a grant from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem to study German in Salzburg, Austria. She attended master-classes with the counter-tenor Andreas Scholl and soprano Ann Monoyios. In the course of her studies she participated in productions including the Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart (as Marcelina), Die Fledermaus by J. Strauss (as Orlovsky).
Avital Dery performs regularly as a soloist with various ensembles throughout Israel and abroad. She has sung, among others, with the Ra'anana Symphonet Orchestra conducted by Dudu Zeva, with the Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra conducted by Andrew Parrott and the Orchestra & Chamber Choir of the Academy conducted by Stanley Sperber. In 2010, she also participated in an art song recital broadcast live on the radio as part of a series of excellence of Kol Hamusika, in which she performed song cycles by Gustav Mahler and Manuel de Falla. She recently appeared with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Zubin Mehta, the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra and Choir conducted by Christoph Eschenbach and the Israel Camerata Orchestra Jerusalem conducted by Avner Biron. She was a regular member of the Israeli Bach Soloists since its foundation in 2008. In 2011 she was chosen by the Centre Francais de Promotion Lyrique to sing at a gala concert at the Opéra Bastille in Paris.
In addition to her career in music, Avital Dery is also studying for a PhD in physics at the Weizmann Institute of Science. |
