Sheila Dietrich (Soprano)

Born: Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

The Canadian soprano, Sheila Dietrich, received her Bachelor of Music Performance and Opera Diploma from Wilfrid Laurier University (2010-2014), where she studied with Victor Martens. She continues to study with Laura Pudwell. In 2015, she made her Carnegie Hall debut as a featured soloist in an evening devoted to the music of Purcell under the direction of Richard Egarr. She was also a finalist in the 2015 New York Oratorio Society Solo Competition and was awarded the Johannes Somary Prize.

Sheila Dietrich is a versatile and in-demand young performer whose style and vocal technique shine in both concert and operatic roles. She has appeared as a concert soloist with ensembles across Canada including Les Violons du Roy (Director: Bernard Labadie), the Calgary Philharmonic, Menno Singers, Nota Bene Baroque Players, Toronto Classical Singers, Elora Festival Singers and Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, Guelph Chamber Choir, Bach Elgar Choir, and Spiritus Ensemble (Director: Kenneth Hull).

Operatic roles include Rose in Sullivan's Ruddigore, Mother in Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors, Pitti-Sing in Sullivan's The Mikado, Belinda in Purcell's Dido & Aeneas, Venus in Gagliano's La Dafne, Helena in Benjamin Britten' A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Abigail Williams in Ward's The Crucible and La Petite Chaperon Rouge in Aubert's La Foret Bleue.

Sheila Dietrich is also a member of Capella Intima, an Ontario based ensemble, which specializes in performing vocal chamber and operatic music of the 17th century in exciting concerts of rarely-heard gems. The ensemble recently finished recording their second CD of Alessandro Scarlatti’s opera Gli Equivoci nel Sembiante, which was expecting a release in early 2019.

Sheila Dietrich is also a graphic designer. She obtained her degree in Digital Communication and Media/Multimedia from Conestoga College (2010-2011). She has worked as Assistant Marketing Coordinator at Multimed Inc. (May 2005-Mar 2010); CER and Keyholder at Indigo in LocationWaterloo, Ontario (March 2010-June 2012); Graphic Designer/Layout Artist at The Printing Korner in LocationWaterdown, Ontario (since June 2012). She currently lives in Kitchener with her husband, her cat, and several overly full bookshelves.
