Bertrand Doucet (Tenor)

Born: Canada

The Canadian tenor and arts administrator, Bertrand Doucet, has been a member of the tenor section of the JUNO Award-winning Ottawa Bach Choir (Director: Lisette Canton) since 2003. He joined the ensemble shortly after its founding after reading an article about the group. His entry into the professional choral world was unconventional. Unlike many of his peers with formal conservatory backgrounds, he joined the Ottawa Bach Choir with choral and percussion experience but no formal classical vocal training at the time of his audition, which he famously took "on a whim."

Bertrand Doucet's first performance with the choir was J.S. Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248. Since then, he has performed a vast range of choral literature, including the works of J.S. Bach, Bruckner, Monteverdi, and Schütz. Recording: He is featured on the choir's 2023 recording of J.S. Bach: Six Motets on the ATMA Classique label. As a member of the OBC, he has participated in prestigious international tours, including multiple performances at Bachfest Leipzig in Germany (notably in 2022 and 2024), where the choir performed at the Thomaskirche.

Beyond his vocal contributions, Bertrand Doucet is a key figure in the management and governance of the ensemble. He serves as the Interim Chair and Secretary of the Ottawa Bach Choir's Board of Directors. He frequently contributes articles and promotional content for the choir, such as pieces in the Glebe Report, highlighting the ensemble's seasonal programming and international achievements.

Outside of his musical life as a tenor, Bertrand Doucet is a professional in finance and administration. He obtained his B.Adm., Finance and Accounting degree from UQAM | Université du Québec à Montréal (1983-1987). He was Controller at Rebel.com (November 1999-May 2001); and Finance Director at Hemera Techologies (May 2001-July 2004). Since July 2004, he serves as the Vice President of Finance and Administration at Sonovision Canada, a company that provides engineering and technical documentation services (often for the aerospace and defense sectors). He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), a background that supports both his corporate career and his administrative leadership roles in the arts. He effectively bridges these two worlds by serving as the Interim Chair and Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Ottawa Bach Choir, where he applies his financial and administrative expertise to the ensemble's governance. This dual career - as a professional chorister and a senior corporate executive - is a distinctive part of his biography in the Ottawa arts community.
