The American tenor, Kirk Dougherty, received his Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received the Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and the Performer’s Certificate in Voice from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.
His professional training includes resident artist programs, summer programs, festivals and other experiences. He was most recently a Festival Artist at Utah Festival Opera and Music Theatre. As a Resident Artist at Tri-Cities Opera, he was the recipient of the TCO’s Carlotta Savoca Memorial Award. He performed as a principal artist at Oberlin in Italy, as an Apprentice Artist at Central City Opera, and as a singer at the Franz Schubert Institute in Austria.
As a soloist, Kirk Dougherty has performed with groups such as the UNC Symphony Orchestra, UNC's Baroque orchestra Ensemble Courant, The Publick Musick, and the Eastman School's Collegium Musicum. He has performed roles for Eastman Opera Theatre and North Carolina's Triangle Opera Theatre based in the Raleigh-Durham area.
Kirk Dougherty has performed in past seasons with Tri-Cities Opera, Opéra Louisiane, the North Shore Music Festival, Bronx Opera, and Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre. He also performed in concert and in opera with groups such as Salt Marsh Opera, Opera Saratoga, Central City Opera, LOON Opera, Mercury Opera, Missouri Civic Orchestra, Cortland Choral Arts Union, Greenwich Choral Society, dell’Arte Opera Ensemble, Eastman Opera Theatre, Delaware Valley Opera, Castleton Festival, and the Downtown Singers, among others.
Recent 2011-2012 theatrical performances include Hoffmann in Les Contes D'Hoffmann, Alfredo in La Traviata, and Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor as a guest artist with Tri-Cities Opera. At Salt Marsh Opera, he sang a special performance of Tamino in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberfloete. He appeared as Boyar in Boris Godunov and covers Don Ottavio in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni at Utah Festival Opera and Music Theatre. At Bronx Opera, he sang the title role in Auber's Fra Diavolo and Amaryllus in Ralph Vaughan Williams' operetta, The Poisoned Kiss. He also sang Faust in Baton Rouge, Los Angeles with Opéra Louisiane, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly with Lyric Opera of the North, and Ernesto in Don Pasquale with the North Shore Music Festival.
During the 2013-2014 season, Kirk Dougherty made his company debut at the Sarasota Opera, singing the role of Manrico in all ten performances of Il Trovatore. During that season, he was also a soloist with the American Symphony Orchestra in Bruch's oratorio Moses at Carnegie Hall. He also was a guest soloist with Glacier Symphony in Gustav Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde.
In Opera San Jose's 2015-2016 season, Kirk Dougherty made his role debut as Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca, and performed the roles of Don Jose in Georges Bizet's Carmen and Mitch in A Streetcar Named Desire. He made his first appearances at Opera San Jose in their 2014-2015 season as the Duke in Rigoletto, Tamino in Die Zauberfloete, and Philip in Where Angels Fear to Tread. Also last season, in his role debut as Don Jose in Carmen, he returned to Anchorage Opera, where he previously sang the roles of Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly and Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor. In the summer of 2015, he sang the Verdi's Requiem with the New Jersey Choral Society.
The 2016-2017 season sees Kirk Dougherty return to Opera San Jose as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Rodolfo in La Boheme, and Sprink in Kevin Puts’ Pulitzer Prize-winning opera, Silent Night. |
