The American soprano and voice instructor, Sophia Duray, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance magna cum laude from Valparaiso University (August 2020-May 2024), where she also won the Carol Bremer Engerer award in vocal excellence; and her Master of Arts degree in Historical Performance Practice from Case Western Reserve University (August 2024-May 2026).
Sophia Duray is equally dedicated to teaching and performing. As an active soloist and ensemble musician, she performs with organizations including Apollo's Fire (since October 2025; Director: Jeannette Sorrell), Leipziger Barockorchester, Valparaiso University Bach Institute, and the Indianapolis Early Music Festival (since December 2024). After graduating, she will move to Chicago to pursue performance and teaching full time, and collaborate with Bella Voce ensemble, the William Ferris Chorale, Sphere Born, and Cut Circle.
Sophia Duray has been Freelance Church Cantor (since August 2008), including at Church of the Covenant, Cleveland (September 2024-2026) and at Music at Holy Rosary Church in Cleveland, Ohio (September 2024-2026). She is a Self-employed Studio Voice Instructor (since August 2023); and since June 2026, serves as Applied Voice Professor at Valparaiso University. She also specializes in performing Baroque dance choreographies written in Feuillet-Beauchamp notation, and plans on incorporating more dances in future collaborative programs throughout the USA. |
