The Danish tenor, Mads Elung-Jensen, studied singing with Professor Bodil Gümoes at the Königlichen Dänischen Musikhochschule (The Royal Danish Academy of Music) in Copenhagen (1987-1995; 1992 State-certified music teacher, singing, with additional training in stage directing; 1993 State-certified music teacher; 1995: Concert Examination of the Soloist Class, Singing). He also studied in master-classes and private vocal training with Professor Ernst Haefliger in Munich and Zürich (1989-1995). In 1995 he made his debut as a soloist at the Musikhochschule. Further master-classes and private vocal training led him to famous tenors such as Peter Schreier, Kurt Equiluz, Anthony Rolfe-Johnson, Scot Weir and Reiner Goldberg in Copenhagen, Berlin and others (1989-2010).
Since 1988, Mads Elung-Jensen is active as a freelance classical tenor with numerous solo appearances as a concert and opera singer in Germany and Denmark. Early in his career, his interpretations of the Lieder cycles of Schubert and Robert Schumann (2018: Unser schwacher Mut; 2019: Die Winterreise and das Hungerherz) and of the Evangelist roles in J.S. Bach's Passions were praised. He also received great recognition for his dramatic stage presence in opera and contemporary music-dramatic works. In 1992, choir master Uwe Gronostay brought him as tenor soloist in W.A. Mozart's Requiem at the Berliner Philharmonie. In the years that followed, the he toured extensively in Europe and South America in works such as Matthäus-Passion BWV 244 and Johannes-Passion BWV 245 by J.S. Bach, in W.A. Mozart's operas and in premieres of contemporary works.
In 2004, Mads Elung-Jensen founded the Ensemble Kopenhagen Kabarett and wrote three cabaret shows for the group. Kopenhagen Kabarett had instant success in Denmark upon its debut. Tours and radio and television appearances continued to increase the ensemble's popularity. In 2009 he moved to Berlin and appeared in his first solo cabaret show in 2010. Since then he has written a number of shows, both in German and his native Danish. He is also the author and translator of numerous poems and Lieder.
In 2012, Mads Elung-Jensen created the research concert program "Musik zum Trost in Trauer" (Music for Consolation in Mourning). For this first research concert work, he received the apostolic blessing from the Pope.
In Berlin, Mads Elung-Jensen is the director and organizer of the Evening Sensation concert series in collaboration with the Evangelischen Friedhofsverband Berlin Stadtmitte. He is also the founder and leader of the vocal ensemble “Die Goldvögel”. They perform in his concert series to provide consolation in grief and for the general concert audience in classical concert repertoire. He currently lives in Berlin, Germany. |
