The German soprano and singing pedagogue, Gabriele Fuchs, studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Kammersängerin Maria Reining. Already during her studies she was awarded the Bernhard Paumgartner Medal as the best Mozart interpreter and the Lilly Lehmann Medal for outstanding academic achievements. During this time, the first recordings were made, such as W.A. Mozart's Coronation Mass and the motet Exsultate Jubilate, which are still valid today.
Already at the beginning of her studies Gabriele Fuchs sang regularly at the Salzburg Festival in the opera productions Der Rosenkavalier and W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro under Karl Böhm, Don Carlos under Herbert von Karajan. There were also church concerts (W.A. Mozart's Mass in C minor) and W.A. Mozart concert arias, which were broadcast live around the world in the matinee concerts. She began her stage career at the Opernhaus in Graz, then she followed engagements at the Städtischen Bühnen Frankfurt and later at the Hamburgische Staatsoper, each as a member of the ensemble.
Gabriele Fuchs' most important roles include W.A. Mozart parts, such as Konstanze in Entführung aus dem Serail, Susanna and Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Zerlina in Don Giovanni and Despina in Così fan tutte. But the roles of Gilda in Rigoletto, Oscar in G. Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera, Nanetta in Falstaff, Lauretta in G. Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, Rosina in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, are also particularly noteworthy in the Italian subject, with whitch she performed at the Oper Frankfurt and the Hamburgischen Staatsoper was able to celebrate great success. She also made a name for herself as an interpreter of Richard Strauss. Her most important roles include Sophie in Rosenkavalier in Graz, Hamburg, Berlin State Opera under Herbert von Karajan, Lisbon and at the Munich State Opera under Carlos Kleiber, as well as Zdenka in Arabella at the Zürich and Hamburg Opera Houses. As far as the modern repertoire is concerned, one of her outstanding roles was that of Marie in Bernd Alois Zimmermann's opera Die Soldaten at the Staatsoper Hamburg.
Numerous record, radio and television productions, guest performances at major opera houses in Munich, Berlin, Lisbon, Geneva, Venice, Vienna, Brussels and Rio de Janeiro, among others, and collaboration with well-known conductors such as Herbert von Karajan, Karl Böhm, Leonard Bernstein, Carlos Kleiber, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Christoph von Dohnányi have made Gabriele Fuchs' name internationally known.
In the academic year 1997, Professor Gabriele Fuchs took over a singing professorship at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, which she successfully completed with great dedication.
