The Belgian tenor, Ludwig van Gijsegem, sang in the choir of the Schola Cantorum Cantate Domino. In Aalst he became fascinated by music and after his normal studies, he enlisted at the Royal Conservatory of music in Ghent where he studied theory, recorder and chamber music with Oswald van Olmen and Johan Huys. After graduation, he took singing lessons with Louis Devos at the Royal Conservatory of Music In Brussels. At that time he had already started his career by giving concerts all over Europe and as a member of several professional ensembles.
After his graduation in Brussels, Ludwig van Gijsegem continued studying privately with Professor Rudolf Bautz In Aachen, Germany. He followed masterclasses in Lied Interpretation with Hans Hotter at the Musikhochschule In Vienna and courses of perfection for lute songs with Marius van Altena and Anthony Bailes.
In 1980 Ludwig van Gijsegem was the prizewinner of the international Competition for Old Music in Hubertise, Belgium. Ludwig van Gijsegem became a well-known name in the concert field. He has made extensive tours in Mexico and China and has performed in most European countries and Israel and Columbia. Besides various recordings for Eufoda, Erato and Harmonia Mundi, he has made several radio and television recordings. He has participated in important festivals such as the Festival of Flanders, Festival of Wallonia and the Festival of Radio France in Montpellier.
Ludwig van Gijsegem was invited for 1995 and 1996 to sing the Evangelist in the St. Matthew's Passion (BWV 244) with the Mittel-Deutsche Rundfunkchoir in Leipzig, Frankfurt and Dusseldorf. In December 1995 he sang with them the Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) in Leipzig, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Berlin. In July 1997 he sang the role of Don Jose in Carmen In Amsterdam. In 1998 season he sang a.o. L.v. Beethoven Ninth Symphony with the Residentie Orchestra, The Hague. |
