The Slovenian soprano, Nika Gorič, studied at the Ballet and Music School in Maribor, Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Graz (Bachelor of Arts degree in Voice and OperaBachelor of Arts: 2009-2013); and the Royal Academy of Music, London (Master of Music degree: 2013-2015; Adavance Diploma in Opera: 2015-2017) where she completed her studies with Lillian Watson and Jonathan Papp, receiving the Regency Award in 2015 (whose industry and achievement were consistently of the highest calibre during their time at the Academy) and The Queen’s Commendation for Excellence in 2017 - for the best all-round student of the year. In 2019 she was awarded Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (Awarded to former students who have made a significant contribution to the music profession). Most recently, she was awarded an audience prize by Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. She has received suppoted by from YCAT, Sir Charles Mackerras Opera Scholarship, Independent Opera Voice Scholarship, Josephine Baker Trust, Solti Accademia,Verbier Festival Academy and Slovenian Ministry of Culture during her studies. She was a young artist at the Salzburg Festival, Verbier Festival, Solti Accademia and an Independent Opera scholar.
Nika Gorič is active as a freelance soprano since September 2016. Her roles include: Pamina in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (SNG Ljubljana, October 2021), Norina in Don Pasquale, (Slovene National Theatre, October 2016), Adele in Die Fledermaus (SNG Maribor, October-December 2019), Susanna in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro (Hackney Empire, London, October-November 2015), Gilda in Rigoletto (Scottish Opera, October-November 2018; SNG Maribor, May 2022), Aricie in Hippolyte et Aricie (Opera Rara Krakow, January-February 2019), Italienische Sängerin in Capriccio (Garsington Opera, June 2018), Titania in The Fairy Queen, Eurydice in Orphée aux enfers (RAO at Hackney Empire, February 2017), Polly Peachum in Die Dreigroschenoper (Shoreditch Town Hall, June 2017), Fortuna and Pallade in L’incoronazione di Poppea (RAO, May 2016), Elisetta in Il matrimonio segreto (Graz, June 2012) Sandmännchen in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel (Graz, January-February 2012). In concert versions she performed as Abra in Antonio Vivaldi's Juditha Triumphans, Dido in Dido and Aeneas and most recently as Amore in Orfeo ed Euridice (SNG Ljubljana, September-November 2022).
Concert highlights includes Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Berlin Philharmonie, Royal Festival Hall London, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Sydney Opera House, where she has recently performed with NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra Hamburg (Conductor: Carlos Miguel Prieto, Novemmber 2019), Karajan-Akademie of the Berliner Philharmoniker (Conductor: Pablo Heras-Casado), June 2019, Philharmonia Orchestra (Conductor: Joana Mallwitz, April 2019), Australian Chamber Orchestra (Conductor: Richard Tognetti, December 2017) and alongside City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (January 2016 & March 2018), Orchestra of Scottish Opera, Garsington Opera Orchestra, Kraków Festival Orchestra, and others. Recent highlights include Alban Berg's 7 frühe Lieder and Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 4 with Slovenia Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Philipp von Steinaecker (July 2021), J.S. Bach’s Solo cantata O holder Tag, erwünschte Zeit (BWV 210), soprano solo in Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248 (December 2020-January 2021) and a concert with works by Wolf and G. Mahler at the Festival Ljubljana with Ensemble Dissonance led by Marko Letonja (July 2021).
On the recital platform, Nika Gorič was a member of the Royal Academy Song Circle and a soloist in the Kohn Foundation Bach Cantata Series. She gave recitals at the Wigmore Hall, Midsummer Music, Oxford Lieder, Leeds Lieder Festivals. She took part in a staged production of George Frideric Handel's Messiah with Opéra National de Bordeaux. Highlights include the Klavier Festival Ruhr with Graham Johnson, Kioi Hall in Tokyo, Victoria Hall in Geneva, Kings Place in London.
In 2022-2023 season, Nika Gorič appears in the roles such as Gilda in Rigoletto, Adina in L’elisir d’amore (January 2022), Eurydice in Orphée aux Enfers, Fiordiligi in W.A. Mozart's Cosí fan tutte (July 2022), in a concert version as Ginevra in G.F. Handel's Ariodante (October 2022) and in a world premiere of an opera Blühen at the Oper Frankfurt in the role of Anna. |
