The Canadian mezzo-soprano and music teacher, Heidi Jost, obtained her Baccalaureate of Music in Flute Performance from the University of Ottawa with NACO principal flautist Robert Cram (2001-2005); her Bachelor of Education in Music and English Literature from from the University of Ottawa (2005-2006); and her Master of Music degree in Voice Performance from the University of Ottawa (2009-2011), where she studied with Ingemar Korjus. She studies regularly with singing teacher Quentin Hayes and Deborah Miles-Johnson.
A winner of The North York Concert Orchestra Mozart Vocal Competition, Heidi Jost has a warm and flexible voice, capable of great expression and musicality. She was the alto soloist for George Frideric Handel’s Messiah, Ode for the Birthday of Queen Anne, and W.A. Mozart's Coronation Mass with the Oakville Choral Society. She has also performed the title role in G.F. Handel’s Solomon with the Victoria Conservatory of Music Summer Oratorio Programme. She has as appeared as Cherubino in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro with SPO, 2nd Witch in Dido and Aeneas with KOFMA, Sister Helen in Dead Man Walking with Opera NUOVA, G.F. Handel's Giulio Cesare with Halifax Summer Opera Festival, Rosina with Pellegrini Opera, Cherubino with Vancouver Summer Opera Studio.
On the concert stage, Heidi Jost has performed Ständchen by Schubert and La Vision de la Reine by Augusta Holmes with Gloriana Choir in London, Sergei Rachmaninov's Vespers Op. 37 mezzo solo with the Cantata Singers (Ottawa) and the New London Singers, Camille Saint-Saëns's Christmas Oratorio with the Thirteen Strings, and has toured Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater with soprano Erinne-Colleen Laurin and the Quatuor Despax in Quebec.
In the field of education, Heidi Jost was Music Teacher at Ottawa Christian School (September 2006-Jun 2009); Private Flute, Voice, and Piano Teacher at Long and McQuade (August 2011-August 2016):
Since September 2016, Heidi Jost is based in North London and enjoys freelancing as a singer and playing flute in the orchestra and on worship teams at All Souls Langham Place. She is a core member and alto soloist for Dei Gratia Baroque Ensemble (since April 2019) and a a regular soloist with St Paul’s Opera and Gloriana Choir in London. She has also been Elementary Music Teacher at Richard Cobden Primary School (September 2016-July 2017); Private Flute, Recorder, Voice and Piano Tutor at Camden Council ((September 2016-July 2017); and the Junior Music and French teacher at St. Margaret's School Hampstead, where she also teaches a studio of private singing and flute pupils (since January 2017). |
