Thomas Kelly (Tenor)

Born: June 1, 1990- London, England

The English Tenor, Thomas (Tom ) Kelly,, began singing at the age of 7 as a chorister (1997-2003) in Choir of St. Paul's Cathedral, London under John Scott. After a music scholarship at The King’s School Canterbury (Music, English, and Economics: 2003-2008), he obtained his Bachelor of Music degree (Grade First Class) from the University of Manchester (2009-2012). He sang there in the University Chamber Choir and Ad Solem University Chorus. While at University, he was a lay clerk in the choir of Manchester Cathedral under Christopher Stokes (2011-2013) before a lay clerkship under Edward Higginbottom at New College Oxford (2013-2015).

Since then, Thomas Kelly has pursued an ensemble singing career as a member of 3-time Grammy nominated Stile Antico and the Fieri Consort. He also sings frequently with other choirs and consorts including the BBC Singers, Gabrieli Consort (Director: Paul McCreesh), Monteverdi Choir (Director: John Eliot Gardiner), The Tallis Scholars (Director: Peter Phillips), The Marian Consort (Director: Rory McCleery), The Sixteen (Director: Harry Christophers), Tenebrae (Director: Nigel Short), Polyphony (Director: Stephen Layton), Dunedin Consort (Director: John Butt) and Collegium Vocale Gent (Director: Philippe Herreweghe).

Thomas Kelly studies with Raymond Connell and will begin studying for a Master of Arts Degree in Vocal Performance at the Royal Academy of Music this September (2018). He enjoys performing everything from the Evangelist of J.S. Bach’s Passions and other large oratorio works such as Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah and J. Haydn's The Creation around the UK to lieder and musical theatre in sub-Saharan Africa. He has performed a range of opera with ensembles such as The English Concert and The Early Opera Company, from Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and Charpentier’s Actéon to groundbreaking staged performances of George Frideric Handel’s Messiah at the Bristol Old Vic. A stand-out highlight has been a chamber opera of Monteverdi’s music for Spitalfields Music, staged for 0-2 year olds in a specially commissioned opera, toured around east London.

Thomas Kelly currently lives in London, England and enjoys bouldering, writing music and playing for amateur football team Weavers Fields Wanderers in his spare time.
