The Korean-born soprano, Jumi Kim, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree from Ewha Woman’s University in Seoul; her Master of Music degree from Indiana University; and her has a doctoral degree from Ball State University. She was named New Artist of the Year by Cho-Sun Newspaper in Korea and is a past winner of the Graduate Concerto Competition at Ball State. She placed 2nd at the 2009 Regional NATS Competition and was selected for the Intermezzo Opera Young Artist’s Program in 2007.
Jumi Kim has performed as a soprano soloist in Messiah with The Ball State Symphony Orchestra and in Hodie by Ralph Vaughan Williams with The Muncie Symphony Orchestra. Her recent performance includes J.S. Bach’s Church Cantata, BWV 51 and J.S. Bach’s Magnificat (BWV 243) with Symphony of the Vines in the Central Coast. She also appeared as a guest artist at The 50 Anniversary of MLK Jr. 'Symphony of Brotherhood' Concert in Los Angeles.
Jumi Kim has also performed in various operatic roles including Suzel in Mascagni’s L’amico Fritz, Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Countess in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto, and Cio-Cio San in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.
Jumi Kim has taught voice for several years at both Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion and IPFW (Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne). She is currently teaching voice at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, California. Her lecture recital experience includes an appearance at the 2008 College Music Society’s National Conference in Atlanta and at the International Conference of CMS in Seoul, Korea, 2011. |
