Leipziger Vocalensemble (Vocal Ensemble) |
Founded: 1976 - Leipzig, Saxony, Germany |
The Leipziger Vocalensemble (= LVE) was created under the name Leipziger Vokolkreis in 1976 by Georg Christoph Biller, who later became a Thomaskantor but has remained faithful to his roots until today. Artistically the choir was directed by Georg Christoph Biller up to autumn 1998. In 1999 David Timm became the director of the ensemble. The LVE includes about 45 members of various occupations.
The special request of the LVE exists in the performance rarely heard and contemporary choral music, but above all they are dedicated to performance of the vocal works of J.S. Bach. Since the appointment Georg Christoph Biller as Thomaskantor the ensemble is merged with the Thomanerchor Leipzig in programmes of motets and cantatas. The cantatas of J.S. Bach as well as his Passions and the Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) arrange the ensemble in artistic co-operation of many years with the Leipziger Barockorchester.
The LVE has worked regularly with the MDR-Musiksommer; unites for broadcast and television productions of choral-symphonic works at the Gewandhaus with the Thomanerchor Leipzig, the Gewandhauschor, and also the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. In 1995 the ensemble produced CD with choral works of Johannes Weyrauch. Concert tours have led the LVE so far all around Germany, as well as to Denmark, England, South Africa, Estland and Switzerland. |
