The English tenor, Tim Lawrence, was introduced to classical singing at a very early age, which has helped him to develop into a fine singing musician. After receiving a music scholarship from King Edward’s School, Edgbaston, he was subsequently awarded an Open Scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in London. He graduated in 2012 with a first class honours in singing performance, having studied as a Kohn Foundation Bach Scholar with Dr. Neil Mackie CBE.
Permanently resident in Norway, Tim Lawrence is becoming increasingly in demand as a soloist all around Europe, having rapidly established himself as one of the most promising young tenors of his generation. He made his solo operatic debut on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow under the direction of Peter Sellars (Purcell: Indian Queen, Role: Don Pedrarias Dávila) and recently performed with the LaVerdi Orchestra in Milan at the Auditorium di Milano and Duomo di Milano (J.S. Bach: St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244), Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach: Magnificat). In April 2014, He made his debut appearance with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in “De Unges Konsert” and was voted as the winner of the annual Audience Prize.
Other recent performances include J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) in Kristiansand Domkirken (Cathedral), J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245) (Bergen Domkirken), Benjamin Britten’s The Company of Heaven (Bergen Korskirken), Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Seranade to Music (Kilden, Kristiansand) and W.A. Mozart’s C-Minor Mass (Trondheim’s Nidarosdomen).
As an experienced choral and consort singer, Tim Lawrence has worked with groups such as the BBC Singers,
Gabrieli Consort (Director: Paul McCreesh) and Ex Cathedra (Director: Jeffrey Skidmore) in the UK. He is a permanent member of Edvard Grieg Kor, a professional vocal ensemble based in Bergen, Norway. Since moving to Norway, he has among others been invited to work with Bergen Nasjonale Opera, Opera Sør, Det Norske Solistkor (Director: Grete Pedersen), VocalART, Kristiansand Solistensemble and Trondheim Vokalensemble. |
