The Korean tenor, Louis Lee, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Voice and Opera from the Korea National University of Arts (2022); and his Master of Music degree in Voice and Opera from the Mannes School of Music (2025). His principal teachers include William Burden, Dongbeak Kim, and Sungjoon Kim, and he has coached with Joshua Greene.He has received numerous awards and scholarships, including First Prize in the KPA National Music Competition (2022), First Prize in the Music Education News Competition (2022), First Prize in the CBS Competition (2016), and Semi-Finalist recognition in the Opera Crown International Competition (2023). He has also been awarded scholarships by the Knoxville Choral Society (2025), Yunhap Church Seattle (2024), and the 21 Hope Foundation (2024) in recognition of his artistic achievements.
Louis Lee is recognized for his expressive artistry, refined musicianship, and versatility across operatic, concert, and contemporary repertoire. He is quickly establishing himself as a promising young artist through performances with leading training programs and concert organizations in both the USA and South Korea. In 2025, he joined Central City Opera as an Apprentice Artist, where he covered the role of Count Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia (2025) after appearing as Postiglione in La fanciulla del West during the company's 2024 season as a Studio Artist. In 2025, he was also a Full Scholarship Artist with Nashville Bel Canto Opera, performing in scenes from Don Giovanni, La Bohème, and Il barbiere di Siviglia.
An active concert artist, Louis Lee has appeared as tenor soloist in J.S. Bach's Magnificat in D major BWV 243, J.S. Bach: Cantata Gloria in excelsis Deo BWV 191, G.F. Handel's Utrecht Te Deum, and M.A. Charpentier's Messe de Minuit pour Noël with I Cantori di Carmel. He is also a featured soloist with Opera on Tap New York (since 2024) and has performed in recital programs including Evening of Songs at Ernst C. Stiefel Hall and Cinderella - A Fairy Tale at JPS Hall in New York.
His operatic repertoire includes Ferrando in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte, Count Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore, Postiglione in La fanciulla del West, and Count Almaviva (Cover) in Il barbiere di Siviglia. |
