The German-born American tenor, Eric Lewis, obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in Latin from from the University of Dallas (2003-2007); and his Master of Music degree in Sacred Music (MMSM) from Catholic University of America (2013-2016).
Afer completing his studies, Eric Lewis spent his DC sojourn in the chorus of the Maryland Lyric Opera, assistant conducting the Catholic University Chamber Choir, and singing professionally with the Washington Master Chorale (April 2017-May 2021), with whom he served as tenor soloist featured in the album "Past Made Present" on the Albany Record label. He continued to serve as tenor section leader and rehearsal chironomer for Saint Bernadette parish in Silver Spring and is a member of the early music ensemble Chantry, concurrently serving as a regular sub at the National Shrine and at the Cathedral of Saint Matthew, through which he was privileged to serve on the judging board for selecting the Papal Choir to sing for the visit of Pope Francis in 2015 during the mass in which the Holy Father canonized Saint Junipero Serra.
For Saint Anselm’s Preparatory School in Northeast, Eric Lewis served as music director for their fall musicals, and at the National Shrine of Saint John Paul II, he served as music director for several years. He was among the final eight in an audition for the Tenor I position for the United States Army Men's Chorus of Pershing's Own and in the final six for an opening in the US Air Force Singing Sergeants. After his studied at the University of Dallas, he spent many years teaching at independent Catholic schools throughout the country, including Faustina Academy, Saint Gregory’s Academy.
Now in Dallas with his wife and two daughters, Eric Lewis serves as music director for the University of Dallas Chapel Choir (since September 2020), full-time Music Director at Cistercian Preparatory School (since June 2016), professional Cantoris Tenor for the Saint Mark’s Choir of Men and Boys, and soloist / professional tenor for the Ensemble Verdigris (since January 2022) and for the Orpheus Chamber Singers (since June 2021). He is also also a member of the Incarnation Choir at Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Dallas (Director: Christopher Jacobson) and sings occassionaly solo part in their Bach's Lunch series. He is thrilled recently to have been named one of the VOCES8 US Choral Scholars for their 2024-2025 season (March 2024-February 2025). |
