The Malaysian mezzo-soprano and choral conductor, Wen Chin Liu (Chinese: 劉文倩), graduated from University College Sedaya International (UCSI) in 2008 with a Bachelor of Music degre (Hons) in classical piano performance, under the tutelage of Ms. Geneviene Wong. She obtained her LTCL (Piano) in December 2007 with distinction and Trinity Guildhall Vocal Performance Certificate with distinction. She completed her Masters in Choral Conducting at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) in Bowling Green, Ohio in 2011. She also served there as Graduate Teaching Assistant (2009 to 2011).
Wen Chin Liu started her teaching career in 2005 at the Young Choral Academy, directing musicals, choral competitions, under the guidance of Ms. Susanna Saw (2005-2009). After graduating from BGSU, she served as Director of Choral Music at St. Ursula Academy in Toledo, Ohio (August 2011-April 2015). She prepared St. Ursula Academy choirs to perform L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with Toledo Symphony Orchestra at the Huntington Center, together with 1,000 singers. In March 2013 and 2015, she brought SUA choir to perform at Carnegie Hall, New York City. She was the music director of Elkton United Methodist Church in Virginia from 2015 to 2017. She also conducted the JMU Spring 2017 opera production The Mikado. She has been awarded a full assistantship to continue her D.M.A. in Choral Conducting at the University of Iowa. She currently lives in Iowa City, Iowa. |
