David Lowe (Tenor)

Born: May 30, 1957 - Birmingham, West Midlands, England

The English tenor and singing teacher, David Lowe, was educated at King’s College, Cambridge (Class of 1979), where he was a Choral Scholar, and the Royal College of Music in London.

David Lowe has travelled widely around Europe, Scandinavia and USA, singing with many of the best-known London ensembles. He has also provided professional choirs for Richard Hickox, Sir Roger Norrington, Sir Simon Rattle, The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and European Voices, which he founded with Simon Halsey.

David Lowe has been Lay Clerk at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle (January 1980-April 1992); Professor of Singing at Royal Academy of Music (September 1993-July 2007); Master of Music at Norwich Cathedral (September 2007-August 2011); Principal Study Vocal Tutor at Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester (September 2011-August 2018); Director of College and Chapel Music at Downing College, Cambridge (September 2018-September 2023); Head of Singing at Choir of King's College, Cambridge (since November 2020); Singing Teacher at The Choral Courses at Windsor, Berkshire (since 1988); Singing teacher at St John's College in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire (since 1988). Among the singers who have studied with him and/or attended his master-classes: James Birchall (Bass-Baritone), Emma Brain-Gabbott (Soprano), Jeremy Budd (Tenor), Jonathan De Ceuster (Counter-tenor), William Dawes (Baritone), Ruth Massey (Mezzo-soprano), Reuben Thomas (Bass-Baritone), Paul Thompson (Tenor), Simon Wall (Tenor), Owen Willetts (Counter-tenor). He currently lives in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire.
