The American soprano, MaryRuth Lown, holds a Bachelor of Music Education (B.M.E.) from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where she studied voice with Dr. Jennifer Hough. She recently graduated from Boston University (CFA '17, Master of Music Degree in Historical Performance), where she studied voice with Aaron Sheehan and various aspects of historical performance practice with Martin Pearlman and Peter Sykes.
Currently in her second season as a choral scholar with Music at Marsh Chapel (Boston) under the direction of Dr. Scott Allen Jarrett, MaryRuth Lown has been featured as a soloist in George Frideric Handel's Israel in Egypt, J.S. Bach’s Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244), the "Bach Experience" Bach Cantata Series at Marsh Chapel, and the world premiere and recording of James Kallembach’s work The Most Sacred Body. In collaboration with Music at Marsh Chapel and the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, she is a featured soloist in the recording of Jeremy Gill's symphonic work Before the Wresting Tides, set to be released in the Fall of 2017. On stage, she most recently sang roles of Nereid and Nymph (Purcell’s King Arthur) with Boston University’s Historical Performance department. She is a founding member of The Brookline Consort, a 12-16 voice chamber ensemble based in Brookline, Massachusetts. She is also on the roster of Vox Futura, the in-house recording ensemble for Futura Productions in Roslindale, Massachusetts.
MaryRuth Lown was last glimpsed in her home state as the soprano soloist in W.A. Mozart’s Requiem with the York County Choral Society and Orchestra in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and was seen as a guest artist performing with the South Carolina Philharmonic, the Dick Goodwin Big Band, and the Lexington County Choral Society. She performed with the Charlotte Symphony Chorus, also under the direction of Dr. Scott Allen Jarrett, and served as a soprano choral scholar at Myers Park United Methodist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina.
MaryRuth Lown was also active as an educator and adjudicator for SCNATS and was a voice instructor at Clover High School (South Carolina). |
