The Polish soprano, Halina Łukomska, studied singing with Stanisława Zawadzka and Maria Halfterowa and general music at the Music Academy (Higher State Music School) of Warsaw, where she received her diploma in 1954. She continued her studies at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena with Giorgio Favaretto (1958) and was then in Venice pupil of the famous Toti Dal Monte (1959-1960). In 1956, she won the first prize at the International Singing Competition in Hertogenbosch.
In 1960 Halina Łukomska began her international concert career, performing works from all areas of music literature. She was regarded as a great interpreter of contemporary music and performed vocal works by Luigi Nono, Witold Lutoslawski and Pierre Boulez (Pli selon pli), Bruno Maderna, Kazimierz Serocki, as well as in works by Arnold Schoenberg, Anton Webern, Alban Berg and Igor Stravinsky. She created several works (Espressioni, Meditations, Salmo gioioso) of contemporary Polish composer Augustyn Bloch (b 1929), with whom she was married. She appeared in fesivals as Edinburgh, Perugia, Vienna, Warsaw and Toulouse, and Holland Festival, and in 1971 at the Salzburg Festival with a concert of modern music. She sang along with the major orchestras around the world, and was estimated in particular by the composer and conductor Pierre Boulez. In 1973 she undertook a North American tour with the Cleveland Orchestra.
