The American mezzo-soprano (and former soprano) and voice teacher, Tess McCarthy, obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education (2006-2010) and her Master of Science degree inb Music Education (2014-2016), both from the College of Saint Rose. She also attended Master-Classes and Individual Coaching at the Daniel Perro Vocal Program (2015). She was 1st Prize Winner at the Joel Dolven Vocal Awards of the Mendelssohn Club (2014). She received Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Leadership and Administration, from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (May 2023-July 2024).
Tess McCarthy has been soprano soloist at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Albany, New York since 2013 and mezzo soprano soloist there since May 2022. She was also soprano soloist at Temple Beth Emeth from 2014 to 2017. In concert she has sung John Rutter's Magnificat (2014), J.S. Bach's Magnificat in D major BWV 243 (2014), Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria (2015), George Frideric Handel's Messiah (2015), among others. Opera roles include: Sandman in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel at the College of Saint Rose (scenes, 2018); Peep-bo in the Mikado at the College of Saint Rose (2019); Pernille in The Beautiful Bridgeroom at Midwest Institute of Opera (2014); Susanna in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro at Albany Italian American Community Center (scene, 2015); Hansel in Hansel and Gretel at Midwest Institute of Opera (2016); Aleda in Aleda: Or the Fight of the Surfbird Women at Musicans of Ma'alwyck (2020).
In the education field, Tess McCarthy has been Music Teacher at The Albany Academies (August 2010-June 2016); and Teacher at South Colonie Central School District (since August 2016; from July 2024 as Associate Principal). She currently works there as the High School Chorus and Music Theory Teacher, but she has also taught at elementary and middle school levels in this district. |
