The young Scottish soprano, Lisa Milne, studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama with Patricia McMahon. She won numerous awards and prizes, most notably the 1993 Maggie Teyte Prize and the 1996 John Christie Award.
Lisa Milne made her professional début on the opera stage as Gianetta in Scottish Opera's production of L'Elisir d'Amore. In 1994-1995 she then took up a three-season principal contract with Scottish Opera where her roles included the Dew Fairy (Hänsel und Gretel), Coryphee (Alceste) and three Mozart roles: Zerlina, Susanna and Ilia. She has also appeared with Welsh National Opera (as Servilia), the Stuttgart Opera (as Gretel) and at the Göttingen Händel Festival as Atalanta in Xerxes.
Lisa Milne made her London recital début at the Maggie Teyte Prize-winner's Concert at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and has given recitals at the Aix-en-Provence and City of London Festivals. In 1998 she made her Wigmore Hall and Edinburgh Festival debuts. She has sung with The Gabrieli Consort, the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Philharmonic and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
Lisa Milne made her recording debut on the Hyperion label singing George Frideric Handel and Antonio Vivaldi cantatas with the King's Consort. Her first solo recording of a selection of Marjory Kennedy-Fraser's Songs of the Hebrides was greeted by The Sunday Times reviewer as 'as fine a solo debut album as I have encountered all year'. She has also recorded John Ireland songs for Hyperion, to be issued soon.
Future operatic engagements include Ilia for the Royal Danish Opera, Copenhagen; her first Sophie and Despina for Scottish Opera; and the title role in Rodelinda at
Glyndebourne. |
