The Dutch mezzo-soprano/contralto, Gabriëlle Nijhuis, began her classical vocal training with An Valbracht in Vessem. Subsequently, she studied at the Brabants Conservatorium in Tilburg where she also graduated in the direction UM Classic solo singing. She studied there with Marius van Altena, Marianne Klep, Bernhard Kruysen and Hanneke Kaasschieter. Following that she was coached for a number of years by Hetty Gehring (Utrecht). Currently she is in contact with Xenia Meijer, who provides her inspirational coaching. She attended master-classes and workshops with Barthold Kuijken, Maarten Koningsberger, David Prins, Gerda van Zelm, Margreet Honig and Nathalie Stutzmann, among others.
Gabriëlle Nijhuis’ repertoire is very diverse and ranges from Baroque to 21st century classical music. As a soloists she regularly collaborate in diverse projects. She has sung as a soloist Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi, Messiah by George Frideric Handel, as well as Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244), Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248), and many cantatas by J.S. Bach. She has worked together with conductors such as Daan Admiraal, Martien van Woerkum, Marijn Slappendel, Bas Ramselaar, etc. Besides solos of many great works from the Baroque and Classical periods, music by Igor Stravinsky, Arnold Schoenberg and Tippett and contemporary young composers is also in her repertoire . Together with soprano Marjon Strijk and organist Henk van Zonneveld she has performed many times Stabat Mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. Furthermore, she arranges with changing partnership chamber music programmes and also works on a project basis with a number of professional vocal ensembles, including the Nederlandse Bachvereniging conducted Jos van Veldhoven and Ribattuta Ensemble conducted by Dick Duijst. In the spring of 2009 she was a soloist in CD recordings and concerts with music by Andrew Clement.
