Alistair Ollerenshaw (Bass-Baritone)

Born: England

The English bass-baritone, Alistair Ollerenshaw, studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with Robert Alderson where he won the Schubert Prize, and completed a Music degree at the University of Leeds during which time he spent a year at the Franz Liszt Hochschule in Weimar. He continued his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music and at the Royal Academy of Music where he was awarded a Distinction with a DipRAM. He is is currently in his final year at the Royal Academy of Music Opera Course with Mark Wildman, Iain Ledingham, Audrey Hyland.

Alistair Ollerenshaw has also taken part in public and private master-classes with Sir Thomas Allen, Ian Partridge CBE. Julius Drake, Dennis O’Neill CBE, Brindley Sherratt and Malcolm Martineau. He was awarded 2nd prize in the Ludmilla Andrew Russian Song Prize and was a finalist in the prestigious Richard Lewis/ Jean Shanks Award. He is generously supported by The Norman McCann Scholarship, The Leverhulme Trust and Philip Tattey Scholarship and The Josephine Baker Trust, and a Toba Mann Award from the Royal Academy of Music.

Alistair Ollerenshaw performs extensively on the concert platform across the UK. His recent performances include George Frideric Handel's Messiah with the Manchester Camerata at Huddersfield Town Hall, Haydn’s Paukenmesse with the Harrogate Choral Society and Manchester Camerata, title role in Felix Mendelssohn’s Elijah at the Amersham Music Festival and Johannes Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem with the Brandenburg Sinfonia at St Martin in the Fields. and W.A. Mozart’s Mass in C minor with the London Symphony Chorus. Other repertoire includes J.S. Bach’s St John Passion (BWV 245), Haydn's Nelson Mass, Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man, Monteverdi Vespers and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle.

On the opera stage, Alistair Ollerenshaw has performed the roles of Figaro in W.A. Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro (Leeds University, Winterbourne Opera), Pollux in Rameau’s Castor et Pollux (The Yorke Trust). He has sung Papageno in W.A. Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Father in Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, Leporello in W.A. Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Il Conte Robinson in Cimarosa’s Il matrimonio segreto and Marcello in Puccini’s La Bohème (Royal Northern College of Music) and Il Conte Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro (Royal Academy of Music Opera) in opera excerpts. His operatic roles also include Junius in Benjamin Britten’s Rape of Lucretia conducted by Steuart Bedford, Pandolfe in Massenet’s Cendrillon, Betto in Gianni Schicchi, Sid in Albert Herring, Masetto (cover) (Garsington Opera), Rambaldo (cover) (Go Opera/ Opera di Peroni).

Future engagements include G.F. Handel’s Messiah with Sleaford Choral Society, F. Mendelssohn’s Elijah with Leamington Spa Choral Society, Betto in Puccini's Gianni Schicci in November 2014 and Nick Shadow in Igor Stravinskyy's The Rake's Progress in March 2015 for Royal Academy Opera.
