The Austrian soprano, Margit Opawsky, is a graduate of the Vienna Academy of Music. She has been schooled and raised in the great tradition of the Viennese opera.
In 1949 Margit Opawsky became a member of the Vienna Opera where she distinguished herself for a fine performances of the Marcelline in Fidelio, Suzanna in The Marriage of Figaro, Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute and Violetta in La Traviata. She has also to her credit the 1950-1951 season with the Berlin 'Opera Comique', radio performances with the BBC, Radio Hilversum in the Netherlands, and Radio Vaticanna in Rome. She has toured Europe in performances in oratorio, lieder and recitals.
Margit Opawsky recorded in the 1950's for the 'Music Masters Society', cast as the lead soprano for many of their abridged opera recordings, such as Trovatore and La Traviata. She was a lyric-coloratura whose repertoire included Violetta, Queen of the Night, Countess Almaviva, and she also recorded some Bach cantatas.
